Hydropower in the global context: This Workshop is organised in light of the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) and the "Sustainable Energy For All Initiative" which was recently launched by the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon.
The workshop aims at bringing together national stakeholders, international experts and economic actors in the field of Hydro Power. The main purpose is to highlight the contribution of Hydro Power to a sustainable Energy Future with a view on the important role of Hydro Power on climate change mitigation and on improving the electrification in developing countries as well as on the impact on poverty alleviation.
Special attention will be given to best practice examples on implemented projects and to the socio-economic impact of Hydro Power on the regional development.

The conclusions of the workshop will provide an input to the Rio+20 process!
