Regional GFSE: Access to Rural Energy for Sustainable Development and Policies for Rural Areas, 24-26 Nov. 2004 - Paro, Kingdom of Bhutan
The regional GFSE workshop was held for member countries of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). It aimed to increase awareness on rural energy supply for sustainable development as part of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) among the countries of the Himalaya-Hindukush Region and donor countries. The workshop was targeted to facilitate regional solutions and help Bhutan's efforts to achieve "electricity for all by 2020", and also sought to explain and promote the concept of the EU Energy Initiative (EUEI) for poverty eradication and sustainable development.

A joint meeting of energy initiatives created at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg took place back-to-back with the 4th GFSE Conference "Energy for Sustainable Development: Reconsidering the Role of Incentive Measures".
GFSE - 4: Energy for Sustainable Development - Reconsidering the Role of Incentive Measures, 18-20 Feb. 2004, Vienna, Austria
GFSE-4 put particular emphasis on renewable energy issues in order to provide input into the “Renewables 2004” conference, hosted by Germany in June 2004. The forum provided a valuable meeting platform for various energy-partnerships.
