High-Level Conference on Sustainable Energy and Development and GFSE Side Event on Creating Opportunities for Sustainable Energy Investments and Businesses in Developing Countries in October 2018

The conference was held in partnership with the “Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres” (GN-SEC) and in connection with the informal meeting of the 28 EU-General Directors for Development- Cooperation. Over 100 participants came together to discuss the importance of regional cooperation and South-South cooperation so as to promote innovation in sustainable energy and entrepreneurship in developing countries through business partnerships.

Several other energy-related events were held before and after the High-Level Conference, including a side event on Creating Opportunities for Sustainable Energy Investments and Businesses in Developing Countries”. This event was organized by the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy (GFSE) in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry of Austria, the Austrian Development Agency and UNIDO and brought together entrepreneurs in decentralized renewable energy technologies and financiers to share best practices, discuss challenges, bottlenecks and exchange experiences. Innovative financing schemes and new business models accompanied by appropriate technologies enable the provision of clean energy services to low-income populations in a more flexible and equitable manner.
