About GFSE

Institution

The Global Forum on Sustainable Energy was founded by the Austrian Foreign Ministry with the support of the Federal Ministry of Sustainability and Tourism in 1999. The initiative originated from outreach efforts of the World Energy Assessment, which was organized by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the World Energy Council.

The Global Forum on Sustainable Energy is a member of REN21, and its president Irene Giner-Reichl acts as one of the REN21 Vice Chairs.

GFSE is also a member of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

GFSE is headquartered in Vienna and its Secretariat is currently hosted by the Austrian Energy Agency.

GFSE is registered as an association under Austrian law.

Here you can read the Statutes of the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy (only in German).

Outlook

GFSE is currently exploring possibilities to further strengthen its institutional setup. It is committed to an open institutional form and welcomes to cooperate with and involve supporters and partners from manifold sustainable energy initiatives.

If your organization is interested in becoming a supporter or partner of the Global Forum on Sustainable Energy, please contact our Secretariat at the Austrian Energy Agency.
